Italian air force aircraft crashes in military exercise in Australia: report

SYDNEY, July 24 (Xinhua) — An Italian air force aircraft crashed on Wednesday in an international military exercise in Australia’s Northern Territory (NT) and the pilot safely ejected from the aircraft, the NT News newspaper reported.
All Exercise Pitch Black flight operations have been canceled after the international participant crashed in the Douglas Daly region, south of Darwin, the capital of Australia’s Northern Territory.
The incident took place about 11:25 a.m. (01:55 GMT) on Wednesday, and the NT Police have confirmed the aircraft was taking part in Exercise Pitch Black, the report said.
An unconfirmed social media report said it was an aircraft from the Italian air force, according to NT News. ■
